Water covers three quarters of the earth's surface and is very important in the maintenance of our ecology. Water is the source and substance of life. As it becomes polluted, nature has its own way of restoring water to its original state. However, increased population and escalating industrial and agricultural usage have placed greater demands on nature's restoration process. The task of helping us maintain our water quality lies in the hands of the City of Oxnard Water Resources Division - Wastewater and the Oxnard Wastewater Treatment Plant (OWTP).

The primary responsibility of the City of Oxnard Water Resources Division - Wastewater is to safely collect, treat and dispose of wastewater, protecting our environment and safeguarding community health. The Water Resources Division - Wastewater employees maintain the wastewater system and clean storm drains and pipelines to prevent blockages.

The City owns, operates and maintains over 300 miles of sewer pipelines and 16 wastewater pumping stations. The collection system conveys flow to the City's wastewater treatment plant located at the southwest portion of the City at 6001 South Perkins Road. The collection system includes gravity sewers ranging from 6 inches to 48 inches in diameter. The majority of flow in the system is conveyed to the treatment facility through the Ventura Road, Rose Avenue, Redwood, Western, Central and Eastern trunk sewers. The OWTP has an average dry weather flow (ADWF) design capacity of 31.7 million gallons per day (MGD) with provisions for an ultimate ADWF design capacity of 39.7 MGD.

The City's sanitary sewage collection system serves the areas within the City's limits, the City of Port Hueneme and the Naval Base Ventura County (Port Hueneme and Point Mugu). The total population served is approximately 225,000.
