Reaching out to residents and businesses is a significant part of the overall success of the Headworks and Redwood Trunk Sewer Projects. Because of the extent of these challenging and beneficial projects, an effective public outreach program is essential. Already underway, it aims to increase public awareness, provide information and updates, and respond to community questions and concerns.
To accomplish these goals, the following public outreach methods are being utilized:
- Acquire a 24-hour, recorded project information telephone line (provided in both English and Spanish). The number is (805) 385-8360.
- Develop a highly interactive website (www.oxnardwastewater.org) to disseminate current information to the public.
- Develop informational displays and conduct community presentations to local organizations, neighborhood councils and service groups.
- Create and distribute direct-mail letters to residents (English and Spanish) and merchants (English and Spanish) in the impacted areas.
- Develop and distribute door hangers to residents and businesses to remind them that the start of construction is nearing.
- Develop and distribute news releases and public service announcements to local news, radio and television media to inform the public of project and construction events.
- Design, construct and deploy informative construction signage, which will remind motorists of the reason for their delay.
- Design and place display ads in various newspapers to inform the public of the construction progress.
All outreach methods will provide information in both English and Spanish.
